50 Cent took a break from his rap beefs with Shyne and Fat Joe, to do a good deed. The rapper spent this past Sunday hosting a donor drive with his G-Unity Foundation at the Curtis ’50 Cent’ Jackson Community Garden in Queens for 11-year-old Broadway star Shannon Tavarez, pairing with the world’s largest bone marrow donor center DKMS to bring awareness to the desperate need for donors.

Fifty, who previously released a video of himself getting swabbed at the DKMS headquarters, helped boost volunteering for bone marrow transplants by assisting the organization in gaining a record 4,000 registrations over the past two days. The registrations could potentially find Tavarez a matching blood donor for an operation taking place later this week.

’A lot of kids don’t have donors in their families, so they have to look to strangers to be the donor for them,’ said 50 during an interview. ’My son is just a couple years older than Shannon and I can’t imagine if his life was needlessly cut short when there is someone out there that could save him.’

Tamarez, diagnosed with the potentially deadly acute myeloid leukemia, starred as Young Nala in the Broadway production of ’The Lion King.’ She is scheduled to go into surgery later this week to get a transplant of umbilical-cord blood, which has been used as an alternative to bone marrow transplants.
